College girls 22 years later, on Nantucket. Successful after all these years.

Sipping fine champagne on the beaches of Nantucket. Sunset made to order. Five adult girls indulge in giggles and cameras- just like 22 years earlier living together, traveling and playing at being professional photographers. Claudia Kronenberg and I have emerged from RIT and our year photographing abroad as successful photographers on different coasts. Annie Wiswal Widger’s creation of Gentle Thunder Farms is an equestrian Shangri-La. With her big-heart humor, Annie leads trial rides and boards/owns 20 horses. She also runs a gift shop with all things equestrian. Both Anne Sarsfield Morton and Laura Zeffer have found their personal peace through meditation and self-awareness. Anne occasionally teaches meditation after years of running an on-line fine art gallery featuring her fellow Vermont artists. Laura meditates under the guidance of the late world-renown guru for peace, Sri Chin moi. Laura and I both live in Seattle now so get to run and swim together.

Photographing Sizzling Las Vegas Wedding at the Green Valley Resort and Spa

A formula for wedding photography disaster? Men in black tuxes, women in long dresses, outside on a 107 degree day? Not so. After 15 years of dating, Jenny Tang and Luan Li were determined to have a fabulous wedding day. As temps rose, these folks kept their cool; attitude, that is. Not a complaint was heard. Playful natures intact, Jenny, Luan, 14 attendants and family showed their true colors, even inside of damp clothing. Spirits were NOT dampened though, and I can’t remember when I last experienced this much fun at a wedding. And I’ve been to many a fun wedding!

Green Valley Ranch was also fabulous, from modern Mediterranean poolside to soothing main lobby, to generous balconied suite. Even hallways and side entrances were designed as if with photography in mind. And my God, the food. Eating is often a quick experience for me while working. Even so I couldn’t help but enjoy the steak cooked to perfection, the potato tower light and dramatic in presentation, but the lobster was the highlight. Having lobster served atop it shell made the dinning experience all the more divine.
Good taste was part of not only food, but most of all, in choice of friends. The wedding party clearly loves this couple and showed it every minute of this memorable wedding day.

Wedding at Alderbrook Resort: Coffee Table Album, a tiny view

Here are a few samples of the Gehrke’s Coffee Table Album. They had glorious weather for their elegant yet natural wedding at Alderbrook Resort on Hood Canal. This is a unique venue for those dreaming of a destination within a simple drive. Party with your friends and family all weekend, or all week for that matter. Indulge in the Spa! Your get-away vehicle can be a float plane, and your wedding shoes, either something delicate and gorgeous, or rugged Wellington Boots for a trek into the tide pools!

I put in a couple of single shots too, since this presentation is small and was designed to be a 10×15 Coffee Table Album.

We custom design each album in-studio to keep the design personal and exactly how we (and of course YOU) want it.

Hood Canal Frolic. Thank Goodness for Rubber Boots

Admittedly, I like indulging in pampering as much as the next person, like going to the spa at Alderbrook Resort. But often I want to be outside all day. Then I care less about the accommodations than the surrounding landscape. On vacations like these I don’t need a spa to apply toenail polish when toes are propelling forward my hiking boots. (Not that having pretty feet at the end of the day hurts either!)

Perfect for outdoor-centered vacations, Forest Service Cabins provide cozy shelter, complete with an equipped kitchen. And boy is the price right!

Kerry McKean and Marcela Touskova invited us to join them Thanksgiving weekend at Hamma Hamma Cabin near Hood Canal. I was excited by the possibilities. Bonding between our 3 adventuresome girls, introducing them to new hiking locations, and exploring animal life along the Canal was just the beginning. Little did we know it would snow, making the weekend all the more enchanting. Unprepared without winter attire, I didn’t motivate to shoot, only play in the snow. What is evident in the photos is my appreciation for stopping at Rising Stars to purchase new rubber boots.

Hoar Frost, Romance, and Building Friendships at Skalitude in Methow Valley.

This morning we woke up to an enchanting Hoar Frost engulfing Methow Valley, glistening as far as we could see.

Tim and I, along with our 2.5 year old, Ellie, are here to indulge in scenic cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and sledding. We’re staying for the third time at Skalitude, a comfortably rustic cabin in Carlton. The owners are Lindsey and Will, who have 160 acres surrounded on four sides by NFS lands. They groom trails on their property, and often on the adjacent land. This is winter wonderland at its best.

Unlike the truly rustic (but also wonderfully beautiful) Rendezvous hut to hut ski system, Skalitude is barely rustic, and thoughtfully Green. The bamboo floors are heated, and all electricity is from solar panels. While the room and oven heat is from wood, Lindsey and crew take care of stocking the wood, including for the wood-burning sauna. Oooh Ahhh.

Elliedance

Today we’ll be joined by two other families we’ve been getting to know over the past year plus. We all met in Sarah Nishioka’s Music Together class. (Ellie still loves it after nearly two years!) Sarah teaches both at the PNA and Music Center of the Northwest. Both programs are great.

While initially we were terribly disappointed when both couples had to miss the first night, all happens for a reason. I sure do love my husband!

We’ll keep coming back, with or without our dogs, friends, kids, and/or snow. This is a special place.

And yes, Skalitude welcomes weddings.
